Israeli soldiers and Palestinians have clashed in the West Bank town of Nablus. A 20-year-old Palestinian man was killed in the fighting. Nine other people were injured. Reports say the Palestinians threw rocks and other objects at the Israeli troops. An Israeli spokesman said the Palestinian man was killed because he was holding a firebomb. Earlier, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat urged Palestinians to stop attacks against Israeli civilians. Mr. Arafat said that such attacks have hurt the Palestinian cause. He urged all Palestinians to show self-restraint and to not answer what he called Israeli attempts to increase tensions. Mr. Arafat's warning comes less than three weeks before Israeli parliamentary elections.
